Snowflake Streakers Raise Funds for Leavenworth County Uninsured Patients
Leavenworth, Kansas (January 24, 2015) – Despite the unseasonably warm weather, an estimated 400 walkers—dressed in snowflakes, Frozen lookalikes and other wintry and regal apparel joined the second annual Snowflake Streak to help support Saint Vincent Clinic on Saturday, Jan. 24. The one-mile walk event was held at the Riverfront Community Center and attracted walkers from all over the Kansas City metropolitan area.
“We are excited to announce that we raised over $55,000,” said Amy Falk, Caritas Clinics, Inc. Executive Director. “We want to thank our Presenting Sponsor, St. Luke’s Cushing Hospital, and all of our other sponsors for making this event a huge success. The Pancake Breakfast was underwritten by Country Club Bank and Citizens Savings and Loan sponsored the Beverage station.”
According to Ron Romig, the 2015 Snowflake Streak Grand Marshal, the level of enthusiasm, team spirit, friendly competition and involvement from team captains and walkers quadrupled, and there was an increase in new teams. “This event is a win-win for our community and Saint Vincent,” he said. “It’s rewarding to see so many area businesses, civic groups, schools, and families join forces to help those in our community who have no health insurance. Together we are making a difference!”
To add to the fun, prizes were awarded to Citizens Savings and Loan for the Top Fundraising Team, St. Luke’s Cushing Hospital for Biggest Team, Cereal Ingredients for Most Fun Team and Heartland Dental for Most Spirit.
Prior to the walk, participants enjoyed Zumba provided by Lydia Perez LeBron, and after a chilly but sunny walk, enjoyed a pancake breakfast.
Saint Vincent Clinic is Leavenworth County’s only safety-net clinic, providing ongoing primary medical care to more than 900 uninsured adults each year. Each $750 raised will provide the funds to support a full year of medical care for one patient.
